Evolver is seeking a Senior RHEL System Engineer – UMB Tier III to work in Bowie, MD.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

Seeking a senior level experienced System Engineer to provide Tier III level support to our UNIX Infrastructure Team responsible for operations and maintenance of servers running Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6 & 7, on bare metal hardware and VMware based VMs to our government clients.  


  • Install startup scripts for various applications
  • Install security fixes, kernel and OS patches
  • Manage and diagnosed GFS and GPFS clustered environments
  • Plan and implement system changes and adjustments in a way that maximizes system availability
  • Perform configuration management in coordination with security guidelines
  • Maintain LVM best practices – ext3, gfs, xfs, multi-pathing, striping, and resizing. Monitor system performance using standard Linux performance to tools to ensure optimal system environment, for applications.
  • Provide Tier III level Incident Management activities and work closely with our customers & support staff, to resolve issues in a fast efficient manner. Provide on call after hours support for escalated problems and participate in bridge calls with infrastructure support teams, and maintenance vendors
  • Interface with Linux – Virtualization Engineering team on projects
  • Maintain and document procedures and Knowledge Base Instructions (KBI) to train and mentor Tier II staff
  • Document all support activities through the Remedy ticketing system to meet service level agreements
  • Provide status reports, documentation and operational input to management

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

  • A minimum of 8 years of Unix/Linux system Administrator experience supporting multiple systems of which at least 5 years of RHEL systems engineering, including server deployment, configuration, and management; supporting large-scale computer systems in a data center environment
  • A demonstrated experience RedHat architecture with Cluster Suite, Muli-pathing, Kickstart, and VMware
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science/Engineering/ Information Systems or related discipline (In-Lieu-of the education 8 years of total full time IT experience required)
  • RedHat Certifications – RHCSA and RHCE

Technical Requirements (required and desired)

    • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
    • VMware vCenter Server
    • SNMP based monitoring tools & Asset management tools
    • Enterprise class hardware, (SAN) storage, including IBM Blade center & XSeries servers, and Cisco servers.
    • Solaris is a plus
    • HP Server Automation (HPSA) is a plus
    • Oracle Exadata systems is a plus
    • Oracle DB and RAC administration, installation and configuration also a plus

Training and Certifications (required and desired)

    • Must be familiar with implementing procedures, methods, and tools, that comply with government Cyber Security Controls and requirements (NIST 800-53)
    • Must possess strong interpersonal and communications skills; capable of writing purchase justifications, training users in complex topics, making presentations and problem management.
    • Must be able to relate to a diverse group of people including technical and development personnel, management, business customers, and vendors in a constructive and effective manner.
    • Must have a solid technical background coupled with desire and ability to grasp skills quickly, combined with deep attention to detail along with excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Project and work flow management skills
