Evolver is seeking a Sys Admin - Sr. Backup and Recovery to work in Bowie, MD.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

We are currently seeking an experienced System Engineer to support a large data center infrastructure environment. The Infrastructure teams support servers running Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5 & 6, and Windows on bare metal hardware and VMware based VMs on over 3500 system supported by 5 Petabytes of IBM SVC based SAN environment.  We support the Computer Services Division on a long term contract thru April 2024 for the U.S. Department of Commerce Census Bureau. Work site is the Bowie Computer Center located at Rt 301/ Rt 50 in Bowie, MD.

 

  • Participate in the ongoing daily system monitoring, operation, and administrative team tasks to ensure the proper functionality and usability of the backup systems;
  • Participate in team on-site support efforts required during the hours of 6:30 AM through 6:30 PM during weekdays, and on weekends according to project needs (12 hour shifts/possible rotations);
  • Participate in team on call basis rotation efforts as needed during non-business hours, daily 6:30 PM through 6:30 AM on weekdays and all day on weekends and holidays.

 

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

 

The mandatory knowledge and skills of the offered personnel shall include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Veritas NetBackup training;
  • At least 7 years’ hands-on experience with Veritas NetBackup in a large backup system, or 10 years’ experience as a Systems Programmer with large computer systems;
  • At least 7 years’ hands-on experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Sun Solaris, and Microsoft Windows;
  • Experience implementing, optimizing, and managing Veritas NetBackup SAN Client and Fiber Transport solutions;
  • Experience implementing, optimizing, and managing NetBackup PureDisk and Deduplication;
  • Experience with blade servers and utility computing environments;
  • Experience with Oracle StorageTek SL8500 tape libraries and T10000 tape subsystems;
  • Experience with ACSLS tape library control software, including maintenance and upgrades;
  • Experience managing Oracle Key Management encryption hardware and software;
  • Thorough, practical working knowledge of computer hardware, networking, and backup system architecture;
  • Detailed knowledge of networking concepts such as firewalls, routers, switches;
  • Detailed knowledge of network security procedures and practices;
  • Experience supervising, coordinating, and performing additions and changes to backup system components, including server and network hardware, operating systems, and disk and tape subsystems;
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve complex hardware, software, and communication problems on the platforms used by the Census Bureau’s enterprise backup and recovery service.

     

 

Technical Requirements (required and desired)

 

The following additional knowledge would add to the value of the offered candidates, but are not necessary for the candidates to be considered qualified:

  • Experience managing Veritas NetBackup OpsCenter;
  • Experience with fiber channel SAN design, configuration, and management;
  • Amazon Web Services (AWS);
  • Java, Python, and/or PHP programming languages;
  • Experience maintaining Microsoft SharePoint sites;
  • Database backup and recovery experience with Oracle, MS SQL Server, and MySQL;
  • Must be familiar with implementing procedures, methods, and tools, that comply with government Cyber Security Controls and requirements (NIST 800-53);
  • Must possess strong interpersonal and communications skills; capable of writing purchase justifications, training users in complex topics, making presentations;
  • Must be able to relate to a diverse group of people including technical and development personnel, management, business customers, and vendors;
  • Must have a solid technical background coupled with desire and ability to grasp skills quickly, combined with deep attention to detail along with excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Project and work flow management skills.
